This is a very interesting souvenir item for the Spanish-American War. It is a letter opener in the shape of Admiral George Dewey's Sword. The sword is silverplated and is marked Germany at the top of the blade near the hilt. The sword is nine inches long. Thee blade is stamped "FACSIMILE OF ADMIRAL GEORGE DEWEY'S SWORD PRESENTED TO HIM BY THE NATION." This was most likely made right after the war about 1898-1899. There is some wear to the plating from being used over the years. A very nice and unusual letter opener.
$ 85.00
