Wonderful early cut flint glass celery vase. The vase is most likely a product of the Bakewell, Page & Bakewell factory of Pittsburgh, PA and made in the 1820s. Bakewell was noted as the best factory for cut glass in this country. The celery vase is made in 2 parts with the foot being applied to the blown bowl of the vase. The bowl is cut in three distinct designs. At the base of the bowl are 14 plain cut panels. On top of the plain panels is an icicle design and near the top is a wreath of five pointed fronds. The vase is just under 7 7/8 inches high. The top is 5 3/8 inches in diameter and the applied foot is 4 1/8 inches in diameter. There is a nicely polished pontil. This is a very nice example of a Cut Flint Pittsburgh celery vase. The glass is free of chips, cracks or nicks. The glass is also very clear and is not sick, cloudy, discolored or have chemical deposits. Nice heavy wear to the base just the way you like to see it. There are a few very minor wear scratches on the bowl. This vase is very clear and clean.
