This is a very nice child's Staffordshire plate. The plate was made in England about 1830-1840s era. The large boarder has a raised design of Daisies. The interior black transfer design is titled "TEACHING NED HIS EXERCISE." The plate has a great sense of movement and story telling. It shows an older disabled Admiral or Captain playing with his young apprentice in a mock sword fight. It looks like the scene takes place aboard ship and you are viewing the Captain's Quarters. The plate is 5 inches in diameter and is in excellent condition free of chips, cracks or nicks. There is no staining or discoloration but the plate does have an overall fine crazing. There is no markings on back except the incised X mark (see pic#3). A lovely small child's plate.
