Fantastic scarce sugar devil auger that was found in South Carolina. The sugar devil was used to break up sugar blocks and also used in country stores to loosen dried fruits. It is 15 3/4 inches long and wooden handle is 9 1/2 inches wide. Late 18th C or early 19th C, the auger would be a great for displaying with a sugar chest. It is in excellent condition and has a great surface and nice patina. One tip of one tine was broken off many years ago and the pin that holds the handle in place has been lost. The handle does not come out of the socket, but it will turn a bit. This is just one of those fun early Americana items.
