An interesting early primitive candle stand in red paint from the Delaware Valley region. The stand top is 12 1/4 to 12 5/8 inches in diameter and 32 1/8 inches high. The out-of- round top sits atop an octagonal shaped post that fits into a 10 1/2 by 12 3/8 inch platform. The post is mortised into the platform and there are four small peg feet. The top has a cleat on the underside that secures it to the post and there is a small hole on the top where a rose head nail has worn through. Made about 1770 to 1800, the stand is made from pine, ash and other woods. The red paint has been enhanced a number of years ago. A great early primitive candle stand.
