A lovely hanging sugar box from New Hampshire, Circa 1800. Cane sugar cones were shipped to the New England colonies wrapped in cloth, being luxuries for the ordinary middle income family. As such, the cone was cared for in a special box to keep children and mice from picking away at it. This sugar box is 19 1/4 inches high and 10 3/4 inches wide. As an added measure of protection, the backboard has been pierced for hanging high upon a wall. Excellent condition.
